Observational Research

There has been little formal research on animals self selecting, instead most of the research has focused on animals that have had plant chemicals forced upon them at doses that would never be achieved in a normal situation. The current published data on plant extracts has warned many people away from the very plants the animal may need to restore its health. These studies offer insight on how animals self medicate.

Selecting the correct food and medicine is vital for survival. Researchers, such as Michael Huffman (Associate Professor), follow primates in the wild to observe what medicinal plants they eat, which are then sent to the labs for analysis looking for possible new cures for mankind.

The studies on this website are taken from Ingraham's student / graduate observations. The style in which each student has presented their study represents the individual way in which they work and write.
