I received an extremely frantic phone call from a lady that had been given some wormer for her 3½ week old Jack Russell puppies that she had bred. Within a few hours of taking it the puppies had taken a major turn for the worse. It turned out that the wormer she had administered was "Ivermectin" which is usually given to horses and cattle. The vet had seen the puppies and said that he didn't think the puppies would survive the next 24 hours but prescribed electrolytes to be syringed every hour.
When I arrived and saw them I feared they had already died, they both looked like rag dolls, they were limp, had their eyes closed and were very gently shaking and had been like that all through the night and the following morning. They hadn't eaten, drunk or suckled from the bitch in that time apart from having their electrolytes. I had only ever worked with adult animals and had no idea how successful this was going to be or even if they had the strength to take anything.
Remedies that they selected and what I did with them:
None of the macerates even made them open their eyes and I was seriously doubting that I could help them. I have to just say here that what happened next absolutely blew me away.
I mixed a small amount of Spirulina with water and offered to both puppies, one of the puppies, without even opening her eyes, immediately lifted her head and licked the Spirulina, she then put her head back down. The second puppy showed no interest. I then re-offered the Spirulina to the first puppy, who took more licks before turning away and putting her head back down. The second puppy still showed no interest. I re-offered the Spirulina to the first puppy who didn't want any more. The second still showed no interest.
I then mixed up a small amount of wheatgrass powder with water, I offered this to the second puppy first, instantly she opened her eyes and began licking at the wheatgrass powder, I knew we had a long way to go but relief just spread through me, she took quite a lot before turning her head away and not wanting any more even when re-offered. Puppy no 1 had a small amount of the wheatgrass powder. After I had packed my things away and was having a cup of tea, watching the puppies, to my absolute amazement, puppy no 1 got up and made her way over to the bitch and started suckling!!! I told their owner to re-offer the remedies every hour for as long as she could, even through the night. She rang me the following day to say that both puppies were suckling, they had drunk water and had eaten a small amount of weetabix!!
By day 3 the owner rang and said that they were functioning normally, eating, drinking, suckling and even playing and she was now just leaving the wheatgrass and Spirulina down for them for them to have when they wanted.
A 4year old Springer Spaniel in 4th week of pregnancy, very unsettled and restless possibly due to the hormonal changes.
When I arrived, Dame was there to greet me, but was very restless and didn't know where to put herself to get comfortable; her teats were also very enlarged. The main focus was to see if she needed to select secondary compounds to settle herself, enabling her to be more comfortable with pregnancy.
Dame selected: Angelica root; inhaled - licked the air. Yarrow; inhaled, moved laid her head down. She preferred rose abs over otto , and stayed with it for a long time, she then relaxed and laid down with head between her paws, she became really settled. When she was ready she selected violet leaf, which she stayed with for some time then laid down. Linden Blossom she inhaled, came to the bottle, turned round, then laid down on her side, eyes heavy, breathing calm. Later she inhaled neroli, come to bottled, then let out a deep sigh and laid down. When she seem to have processes this she went on to inhale jasmine, lemon, lavender, fennel, geranium.
Dame also took 30ml carrot macerate sublingually and a few licks of aloe vera. Yarrow was re-offered, which she inhaled so I mixed a couple of drops into the gel, which she let me apply to her abdomen. She eagerly took the spirulina - 2 tablespoon mixed with water to make into a lose watery paste.
Dame appeared really settled after the spirulina . I recommended offering it each day separately from her food until she had enough. I also left yarrow mixed with the aloe vera, and rose oil to inhale. Over the following 4 weeks Dame continued to take the Spirulina. Her teats, although still swollen were looking so much better. She settled down the day after she had selected her remedy's and was more or less back to her old self. During August Dame looked wonderful.
Dame gave birth to 5 healthy puppies, however Dame again became restless a couple of days after giving birth so I advised her owner to offer the rose oil, which she loved, both inhaling and licking it, as did the runt of the litter. The other 4 puppies just inhaled it. I suggested that she continued to offer the spirulina , which she instantly took, as did the runt of the litter. I suggested that this was offered until neither bitch nor pup had any further interest in it. Again it didn't take long for her to settle and become once again comfortable.
27th September - You can't tell which is the runt of the puppies it is amazing. They look really healthy, probably the best puppies at 4 weeks old I have seen. They are confident, well behaved and are already in a routine. The runt no longer takes the rose or spirulina. Before sleep I offered for inhalation angelica root, yarrow, rose otto, linden blossom, and violet Leaf, which they all inhaled; they then laid on the bed ready for the light to go out.
Now time for the puppies to be re homed, I suggested that she should encourage the new owners to offer rose foil for comfort, helping them settle. All the new owners agreed to this and the feedback she had was excellent, taking only a few days for the pups to adapt to their new environment.
Dame still has the company of one of her daughters, Lucy. I saw them recently, 25th August, they looked wonderful.
